TLC has commissioned KATIE HOPKINS: FAT STORY 1 YEAR ON from Mentorn Media, a one-off documentary special.
TLC, the UK’s fastest growing pay TV entertainment channel for women, has commissioned KATIE HOPKINS: FAT STORY 1 YEAR ON from Mentorn Media, a one-off documentary special that sees the UK's most outspoken personality continue her crusade against Britain’s obesity crisis.
Katie Hopkins is tough on obesity having said that she would not employ someone who is overweight, and that fat people need to “eat less and move more and stop blaming everyone else for what they can control”. Last year, Katie gained and then lost over three stone in My Fat Story, TLC’s highest rating show, in an attempt to encourage the nation to lose weight by proving her theory that it is easy. A year on, Katie picks up the gauntlet once more, concerned that being overweight is fast becoming more acceptable and the new normal.
The follow-up documentary sees Katie investigate the worrying waistline of bulging Britain – and whether things have got even worse since her experiment. The motor mouth journalist also meets the success stories - people inspired by Katie to join her online 'fat club' that now has 7,000 members to hear their amazing stories of weight loss with striking before and after pictures.
Clare Laycock, Head of TLC, UK & Ireland, said: “Katie’s first documentary, My Fat Story was a phenomenal success on TLC in the UK and abroad where nearly 10 million watched in the US alone. Katie returns to the channel as she has unfinished business, concerned that the obesity problem is getting worse, not better. Obesity is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges of our time and Katie will get to the heart of the matter in her unique, investigative style”.
Katie Hopkins: Fat Story 1 Year On was commissioned by Mark Procter, Acting Head of Production and Development, Factual Entertainment who said: “This is a timely opportunity for us to revisit the biggest challenge of Katie's life and relive those truly impactful moments that surprised even her harshest critics. Also featuring real-life transformative stories of incredible weight-loss inspired by Britain’s most outspoken personality, this promises to be yet another must-tell Katie Hopkins show”.
David Emerson, Head of Features and Formats for Mentorn Media said: “We’re delighted to be working with Katie Hopkins again with TLC on the follow up to My Fat Story. Weight and obesity are issues that Katie feels extremely passionate about and so we’re looking forward to Katie exploring the factors surrounding Britain’s growing waistline, whilst showcasing those who have managed to shift the pounds.”
The show will air on TLC in the UK and Ireland on 2 January 2016. Charlotte Reid is the Executive Producer for TLC, and David Emerson, Head of Features and Formats will oversee the series for Mentorn Media.
