Pioneer Productions, one of world’s leading factual producers, announces today that it has been commissioned by Investigation Discovery to produce Mail Order Murder (6x30’). This offering sees Pioneer deliver a thrilling investigative series, building its reputation for making innovative and diverse factual character-led content.
Mail Order Murder tells the true stories of mail order marriages that ended in the ultimate act of violence. The six-part series uses chilling first person testimony, intense witness interviews, archive footage and dramatic reconstruction to convey each of the compelling cases. As each episode delves into a love-less marriage, the dark truths behind each of the grizzly murders are uncovered.
Capturing the simultaneous horror and anticipation of a whodunit, this gripping series draws upon audiences’ endless fascination with true crime and investigation programming. The first person testimonies from family and friends retell each doomed relationship from the very begging. Archive footage is interweaved with dramatic reconstruction, with dreamlike filming sequences for the first months of wedded bliss, and heavier, grittier filming styles, as the reality of living in a loveless marriage sets in.
Kirstie McLure, Managing Director, Pioneer Productions, says: “Thousands of men each year in the US browse online foreign bride catalogues in the search of the perfect wife. Mail Order Murder shows that what often starts out as a transatlantic fairy-tale, can potentially end in stalking, kidnap, fraud and ultimately, murder. It has been both fascinating and shocking to depict the consequences of these fateful relationships, as we continue to explore new ground and offer this type of character led content. It is also fantastic to be working with Investigation Discovery, expanding on our long standing relationship with Discovery Channels.”
From the Russian mother who was stabbed 11 times and found left for dead in her laundry room, to the couple in Washington, where one party wants more than just a sham marriage, resulting in a business deal turning sour. Mail Order Murder takes us from the start of wedded bliss, to the tragic ends of these women.
Mail Order Murder was commissioned by Winona Meringolo for Investigation Discovery. The executive producer for Pioneer is Kirstie McLure and the Series Producer is Martin Mortimore.
