Today Channel 5 announces brand new docu-reality series Bad Teen to Ballroom Queen (6x60) from Firecracker Films, part of the Tinopolis Group. What happens when eight badly-behaved teens are thrust into the hard-line disciplined world of ballroom dancing?

The six part series will follow the jaw-dropping  transformation of a group of unruly youngsters into disciplined, competitive ballroom dancers. Can their disorderly lives be transformed through the discipline of  ballroom dancing? Can they learn to dance to a good enough standard to take on seasoned veterans?

The teens will be given a crash course in ballroom dancing over a period of one month, culminating in a finale performance where they will showcase their skills at a competition, and dance for a panel of professional judges.

This isn’t the only ballroom related series coming to 5STAR with the recommission of Baby Ballroom, also from Firecracker. Launching earlier in the year and averaging an audience of 133k and a 0.6% share of individuals, the eight part series followed a remarkable dance school in Wolverhampton run by ex-professional dance couple Warren and Jane and the mini stars they are training up for stardom.

The second series will kick off with a Christmas special, before returning for a six-part run next year. Lifting the lid on the world of junior ballroom dancing once more, series two will follow the highs and lows as some of the UK’s top couples go head to head at weekly competitions. Dancers as young as eight will be reaching for the sequins and the fake tan and attempting to Waltz, Foxtrot and Paso Doble their way to silverware.

Set against a backdrop of glitz and glamour the series will also explore the dancers’ everyday lives, the hard work they put in and the sacrifices they and their parents make in pursuit of glory.

Both are commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell and Gemma Hewlett, channel managers for 5STAR .

Bad Teen to Ballroom Queen will be executive produced by Federico Ruiz.

Baby Ballroom S2 will be executive produced by Sam Emmery. Both series will be distributed by Passion Distribution.
