Emma Willis returns to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for a second series of Emma Willis: Delivering Babies (8x60’) exclusively for UKTV’s premium entertainment channel, W. The first series documented Emma’s training to be a Maternity Care Assistant (MCA), working ten hour shifts on the ward, cleaning beds and taking blood pressure. The UKTV Original was a stand-out hit for W and became the channel’s most-watched series of 2018, with almost a million people tuning into the premiere episode.
In the brand-new second series, produced by Firecracker Films, Emma reprises her role in the maternity unit at the same hospital she spent three months training at last summer - this time as a fully-qualified Maternity Care Assistant. Emma will be on shift alongside her old team, ready to assist the hard-working staff as they help bring new life into the world. But now, it’s time to put everything she’s learned to the test, her days as a trainee are over.
In a separate one-off special, Emma Willis: Meet the Babies (1x60’), Emma will also visit some of the parents and babies she met during her training last year and together they’ll look back at the births.
Emma Willis said: “Training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital was such an amazing experience, so I am absolutely delighted to be returning again this year! Training to be an MCA was a real eye opener so I can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for me over the coming weeks. I loved being part of so many wonderful memories for families last year, so it will be great to meet up with some of them and see how they’re getting on.”
Emma Willis: Delivering Babies is commissioned for UKTV by Helen Nightingale, senior commissioning editor and ordered by Richard Watsham, director of commissioning and Steve North, genre general manager for comedy and entertainment. The series is executive produced for Firecracker by Sam Emmery, head of documentaries, and Emma Morgan, creative director of factual, alongside Jes Wilkins, chief creative officer.
Helen Nightingale said: “I am so happy to see Emma return to the Princess Alexandra hospital for a second series of this warm and inspiring series. Emma’s passion for her new role shines through in everything that she does, and we’re looking forward seeing what happens when she gets back on the wards, this time as a qualified Maternity Care Assistant.”
Adam Collings, channel director for W, said: “We’re beyond ecstatic the first series won so much support among the W audience and acclaim across the wider broadcast world. As the most watched show on W last year, we can’t wait for Emma to return to the hospital.”
Sam Emmery said: “It’s great to be working with the extremely talented Emma Willis and the brilliant team at W again. We were delighted with the success of series one and it’s a privilege to be making a second series.”
Emma Willis: Delivering Babies joins a whole host of new UKTV Originals coming to W in 2019, including Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over and the much-anticipated scripted series Flack, starring Anna Paquin and Sophie Okonedo.
The second series of Emma Willis: Delivering Babies and the one-off special will air later this year.
