Channel 4 Commissions Firecracker’s Polyamorous Docu-Series
London, Tuesday 13th July 2021 - UK broadcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a bold new social experiment exploring whether relationships can thrive without monogamy, from Tinopolis-backed Firecracker Films.
The TV production company are looking for couples who are currently in relationships but curious about exploring whether they would be happier in an open relationship.
Open (w/t), a new ground-breaking six-part series, will follow a group of monogamous couples who are willing to explore love and relationships outside our romantic norms, in an unconventional polygamist relationship. Assisted by sex therapists and relationship coaches, the couples will embark on a series of intimate challenges to see if the idea of having sex with other people really is what would make them happy together.
Though still largely taboo, recent reports have found that nearly one fifth of Brits are polyamorous, the question of whether or not humans are truly suited for monogamy is a universal preoccupation which continues to divide opinion, not only among scientists, but among the public at large.
From the production company that created the popular award-winning programmes, Mums Make Porn and Sex Clinic for Channel 4, Firecracker has produced some of the highest rating and most talked about factual television programmes of the last decade, including the BAFTA-nominated international smash hit Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.
The series was announced by C4 and commissioned from the broadcaster’s Global Format Fund, the ring-fenced spend designed to stimulate the creation of original new formats from UK-based indies for UK and International audiences. Commissioned by Head of Factual Entertainment Alf Lawrie with commissioning editors, Tim Hancock and Vivienne Molokwu. Exec Producers at Firecracker are Federico Ruiz, Tom Garland and Chief Creative Officer, Jes Wilkins. Firecracker is part of the Tinopolis Group and the series and format will be sold internationally by Passion Distribution.
