Ahead of MIPCOM 2018, Passion Distribution has further expanded its documentary and factual slate with acquisitions of Inside The Foreign Office (3 X 60’), Postcode Playdates (3 X 60’ & format) and Heroes And Survivors (6 x 60’).
Ambitious access led documentary series Inside The Foreign Office takes the viewer inside one of the most fascinating and prestigious government departments - The Foreign and Commonwealth Office. With 14,000 staff in London and across 270 glamorous, and tough, diplomatic missions around the world, the series offers a privileged insight into the extraordinary world of international diplomacy. In these increasingly uncertain times, there has never been a more compelling time to look behind the scenes of how countries communicate with each other to solve problems, promote trade and prevent war. This truly international series follows diplomats across the globe, from London to NYC, Paris to Baghdad to show how global diplomacy is evolving in the face of rapidly changing technology, media, security and political landscapes. In addition to very large global stories, we see the role of the Foreign Office on the human scale as it assists individual British citizens in need of support anywhere in the world. Be it natural disaster, prevention of forced marriage, illness, crime or a prison sentence. The series is produced by BBC Studios for BBC Two and is due to air later this year.
Postcode Playdates is the engaging new series which sees families with children from the same neighbourhood but across social, cultural, ethnic and economic divides open their doors to their neighbours’ offspring for a playdate for the very first time. From tears and tantrums to forming new friendships, Postcode Playdates is a heart-warming, thought-provoking and insightful peek into the world of playdates. A Firecracker Films production for Channel 4.
Further documentary series include Building To The Sky (6 x 60’) and Machinery Of War (6 x 60’) from Wildbear Entertainment. Building To The Sky reveals the extraordinary history of the world’s tallest buildings. From the early skyscraper boom in the United States to the new megastructures of Asia and the Middle East, it gives a fascinating insight into the human desire to build upwards. Machinery Of War uses archive and contemporary footage, expert interviews and detailed animation to explore landmark developments in weaponry and military technology over the past 150 years.
From The Weather Channel comes new factual entertainment series Heroes And Survivors (6 x 60’) which recounts extraordinary stories of human bravery in the face of extreme and death-defying situations around the globe. Also from The Weather Channel are returning series Weather Gone Viral S4 (8 x 60’) and SOS How To Survive S2 (8 x 60’).
Passion Distribution will also offer returning series, including second seasons for lifestyle series Where To I Do (8 x 30’) and the factual entertainment series The Price Of Fame (6 x 60’). Dr Christian Will See You Now returns for a third season (6 x 60’) with a series of special episodes which this time will see Dr Sara Kayat join Dr Christian with episodes focusing on specific topics such as sexual health or body issues.
This follows the announcement earlier this month of the acquisitions of Emma Willis: Delivering Babies (6 x 60’), Dr Christian: 12 Hours To Cure Your Street (10 x 60’), Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over (6 x 60’) and The Trouble With Women (1 X 60’).
