Pioneer Productions have been commissioned by Channel 4 to create a standalone documentary – The Windsor Castle Fire: The Untold Story, which will detail the 1992 incident that occurred at the Royal Household.
On the 20th November 1992, a fire broke out at Windsor Castle, destroying 119 rooms, as well as nine state rooms. The fire originated in Queen Victoria's Private Chapel, where a faulty spotlight ignited a curtain next to the altar. Within minutes the blaze was unstoppable and had spread to St George's Hall next door.
This dramatic documentary will reveal the amazing personal stories behind the disastrous Windsor Castle fire 30 years ago. Using rarely seen footage, and with access to the people who witnessed it first-hand, this documentary will piece together the minute-by-minute battle to save this iconic building.
From the decorator who was one of the first to see the fire and the brave steps he took to help rescue priceless works of art, to the 200 firefighters who risked their lives to fight the blaze for over 12 hours as the castle collapsed around them, each witness has their own story to tell on the events of that day.
Peter Collins, Executive Producer at Pioneer Productions, said: “The first-hand testimony of the brave firefighters, who were first on the scene, brings a whole new perspective on this disastrous moment in history. The ripples of change the fire triggered in the monarchy can still be felt today.”
The Windsor Castle Fire: The Untold Story is a 1 x 60 documentary for Channel 4. Executive Produced by Peter Collins for Pioneer Productions, with Stuart Strickson as Producer/Director.
